 Week 34 - August 19 - August 25, 2024 - Sutton Lake Campground near Florence, Oregon

It was time for our year trek to the beaches near Florence.  This was our fourth year gong to the Sutton Lake Campground.  Previously we'd been in Group Site A, but his year we were in Group Site C.  It turned out to be SO MUCH BETTER!!!  First is was off the main campground road so it was much much more quiet and private.  We had two bathrooms to ourselves.  There was a pavilion with lights, tables, prep tables, and a sink with a faucet, there were two electric outlets (which with Travis' extension cords) which allowed Travis, Dolores, and us to hook.  There was plenty of room for all of our tents, a place to play badminton, nice access to a little creek.  It was nearly perfect - perfect would have been if there had been no rain and if it'd been free.

We went to church on Sunday.

The girls made bracelets while the boys ran around, played with sticks, and fell into the creek.

I did a 4.5 mile walk every morning.

***South Jetty - we went between the shore like and the jetty, so there was water to play in, sand to roll in, and rocks to crawl over and around.

***Some went to the end of Sutton Lake Trail and followed a trail over the creek and over the dunes to get to the surf.

Wohink Lake which is a day use area next Honeyman State Park - I think this was the best place.  you could swim in the laketake out the paddleboards, paddle in one of the three kayaks, and jump off the bride.....or just sit and read  book.

***Drive to Heceta Light House, walk up the steep hill, and have your Christmas picture taken.

*****Tide Pools and Caves at low tide

***Slide down the sand dunes behind he Fred Meyer...or lay on a blanket and read.

We had fun hanging out at the campsite...playing games, reading

Try to stay dry on the one day it rained.

Malcolm and Haley came with Jamie and announced that Jamie will have a new sibling come April 2025.

And, suddenly, it was time to pack up and head for home.

It was good to get home - exhausted and quite dirty.

The cats were happy to see us.

Sunday we celebrated Shelby's and Ryan's birthdays....with a cake made by Warren.

 Week 33 - August 12 - August 18, 2024 - Clackamas County Fair!!!

The Fair!!!! On Sunday we all went to enter the baked goods - mostly Warren's creations.  Everyone held one plate with a cake and carefully balanced it on their lap.  The cake Whitney is hold eventually took the Brest in the Show...for cakes (I think).

We visited the Democratic Party booth, and I met Kamala.

Warren painted a lot of faces.

It was a great fair week.  The weather was cool.  People had fun.  Warren won about $500.00 in premiums.  Especially - the weather was not HOT.

Dad picked our pears.  The harvest covered the pool table.  We gave them away to Marjorie Benson and Katharine Wilson because we wouldn't be around to process them.

 Week 32 - August 5 - August 11, 2024 - Alder Flat with Clara, Gretchen, and Travis

This week we (Travis, Clara, Gretchen, and I) went to Alder flat for a birthday campout.

We were surprised to notice that the trail has been maintained - sprayed for weeds and then weed whacked.  It was really nice to walk along the trail.  The bridges are being re-built

Our campsite

Travis did a lot of fishing

We played a lot of games.

One day we went up to Riverside Campground.  It isn't open yet, but a lot of re-building has been going on.

Travis got the urge to chop down a dead tree.

And so...another birthday campout has passed.
