 Week 12 - Oregon City - March 17-March 24, 2024

Well........a sad week....little Mishka, our grandcat, died.  She had stopped eating or drinking and was getting weaker and weaker.  Warren had gone to Utah for Spring Break and Dad and I were taking care of their cats.  We went by, morning and night, and took care of Mishka and Carmel.  Then on Saturday morning we found her peacefully lying on the rug/carpet.

When Warren and family return to Oregon City we'll have a funeral.

We did a lot of wood splitting and stacking - got all the pieces that have been cut and waiting by the splitter.

Logan and his friend, Jaxon, helped stack wood - we really appreciated their work.

I cleaned out an area at the bottom of Water Pipe Slope - - I want to put a trail right through that area to the footbridge.

While Bev is gone we're taking care of their three cats and four chickens.

 Week 11 - Oregon City - March 11- March 17, 2024

This is what I did during the week

Walk/work in the woods                                                                                                            Clean and organize the food storage in the basement (when it was raining).                              Take photos of the cats                                                                                                        Celebrate Malcolm and Camille' birthdays.

I was excited to find a blooming plant of Spring Beauty.  Claytonia lanceolata or Dentaria nuttallii.

Some critter is eating the Irish Spring soap I put out to discourage the deer from eating our newly planted trees.  Instead - the critter is eating the soap.  We've put out a wildlife camera and have seen racoons, possums and deer, but nothing eating the soap.

A poor, dead tree on Chisolm's property fell over the fence line at the top of First Slope and made a mess - but it's hard to tell from the photo.  The tree was massively covered with dead ivy...the ivy probable killed it.

This is the same view after I spent a couple of hours cutting the trunk into 44 inch lengths and cutting up all of the ivy branchlets.

I'm cleaning up and reorganizing our food storage (now that Malcolm has moved his stuff to his house) that is in the fruit room and on the shelves.  It's a thankless job.....I don't know how I want to do it...sigh.  This old old can of orange juice finally - - in the not too distant past - finally disintegrated and the contents turned to black ooze that was all over the shelves.

When I walk in the woods...and when I encourage the cats to accompany me, they become my hiking companions.  I finally found Zelensky in the apple tree.

He crawled /jumped down.

And they both followed me.

They lag behind sniffing and exploring; I call to them; the run and race to catch up;
they are winded and lie down with their sides heaving and their mouths open and panting.
Misc cat photos

Sunday evening we celebrated Malcolm's birthday - on the 21st he'll be 36 on the 21st.

And Camille was sung to also - she'll be 20 on the 18th.

Mishka is not doing well........she hasn't been well for a while......she's dying.  We are all sad - especially Warren.

 Week 10 - Oregon City - March 4 - March 10, 2024

It rained a lot this week, and I hardly went outside.  Boring............

We did go to Corvallis to a gymnastics meet with Univ of Washington.  Oregon State won but not by a lot.  It is the last meet for us this year as the next one is in Boise, and after that the Pac 12 championship is in Salt Lake City (during spring beak - - which W&W are going to attend because they are going to Whitney's parent for the break).  I have really enjoyed watching Jade Cary ....and the other girls too.  It is so fun to have a "champion" on your team.

I worked in the woods twice - each time with my trusty cordless pruning shears.  Both times I was on steep places - once by Magnificent Marge where I had to hold on to the small branches/trunks of the cherry tree and the other in Five down by where the bridge crosses Salmonberry Marsh.  Each time by legs were mush by the time the batteries wound down and I cam back up.  Just a couple more days of clipping up branches...then I have to drag up cut up trunks of trees.

I practiced lots.  I've got a guitar duet from Logan's guitar book from his class.  I'm learning the chords and how to play them interestingly as an accompaniment.  After hours of practice, I am a little better but no where near performance r(talent show) ready.

Here's my practice nook in the corner of the living room.

Lots of photos of cats.

It's Sunday afternoon - raining again.
