We spent most of the week (when it wasn't raining) outside cleaning/clearing/gardening.
I was in Sector 3 this week using the brush cutter to make little foot trails to trees which have ivy on them. This is a really steep area, so when it is wet from the rain, I have no interest in slipping on the wet surface of the woods.
One interesting part of Sector 3 is that it is the source of the spring which flows from the base of the steep bank. When we moved here in 1977 it was the only source of water. There was a cistern right at the site of the spring and a pumphouse which pumped (duh) the water up to the house. We couldn't get a loan to buy the house with this sort of water system, so we had to put in a well. With the passage of time we never did anything with the spring, and the cistern has filled in with debris and the pump house has collapsed and is "one" with the forest floor - of course we can't see this because the area is covered by holly trees....which will soon be cut down. Our plan is to try to rejuvenate the spring and have an emergency - non electric - source of water. This photo is looking down at the cistern (it is the round dark spot in the middle of the photo) - note the holly - that is our 'project' for next week.

Right along the edge of the woods in Sector 3 there is a huge Doug Fir - I have named it the "General Lester Brunner" fir. BTW, Lester and Florence Bruner were the people from whom we bought the Manor.

Here Dad is cutting off some nasty old stumps and a big clump of filbert stems/trunks. Lester Brunner is in the photo too.

We had a guy, Don Lutz, come out on Thursday to look at how he can use his brush removal machine to clear out parts of the the woods. He came several years ago and ground up old filbert trees which had been put into our hay field after we uprooted them during our greenhouse construction. He also cleared out the field at Goodin Acres. He'll come as soon as the weather is dry for at least a week. He also knows a guy who has the right kind of equipment to clear off steep embankments, so we'll have him come out after Don is finished with his part.
Right at the edge of our lawn and Sector 2 there is a big cedar that needed trimming - otherwise the guy wouldn't be able to get to the edge. ...so I cleared it out - before/after/burned!!!!!

This was garden planting week -

We got one Find A Grave request to photograph a monument at the Mountain View Cemetery here in Oregon City. We excitedly went and cleaned up the gravesite and photographed it. Weird thing is that I received an email from a person in Oregon City who also takes photos for Find A Grave. I thought I had been properly "claiming' each request, but apparently not. In the email (perhaps, a scathing email) she explained that I need to read the rules so that I don't waste other's time - - apparently I didn't claim it correctly and she went too - and I wasted her time. Okay then! I will be VERY careful in the future, but Dad and I have decided we will always try to claim a request before she has a chance to do it.

Grandchildren - One day, the girls were doing some "filming' and I got these glamour shots
Jude came over and got reacquainted with the bunnies

Janie and Holland happily greeted each other while others were planting the garden

Four or five years ago when we got the Ponderosa Pine seedlings to plant along the road we algo got some Dogwood seedling that we planted alongside Jessica's circular driveway. They have bloomed for the first time (that I am aware of).
