 Oregon City, Oregon - Week 22- May 31-June 6, 2021

This was the first week that Archer and Magnus were with us.  They're planning to be here for five weeks altogether.  Ivan graciously volunteered that they would work in the woods with me......which I'm not sure the boys were really excited about.  However, I will take whatever help I can get and be grateful.  Ivan made the agreement that they'd help me in the morning from 9 to noon...three hours.  We started out with that in mind but at about two and a half hours we were all beat.  When I work by myself, I often take little breaks when I'm tired, but with the boys working beside me, I power through.  This week I was usually out in the woods  from 6 to 8 am (by myself) -  then came in and made breakfast - then back to the woods from 9 to noon - came in for lunch and a long rest -then I went out by myself at about 3 and worked 'till six or so.

I'm anxious to finish branch collection and burning before the middle of June when Burn Season ends (not that I really care about that) because HIKING SEASON starts the third week of June.  I've got birthday hikes scheduled for all the grandkids and three adult hikes...and fair week.

The baby birds flew the nest this week.  Here they were on Monday

Here is their last picture on Friday June 4.  After this we saw them hopping around on the ground for a day or two.

With the boys help, we have finished Sector 5 and Sector 1.  There is a pocket of branches at th bottome of Sector 4 which I didn't do back in March.  I'm going to try to get that part done next week.  Also a bunch of branches in Salmonberry gulch.  Oh 0 a long big branch in the middle of one of the creeck - right down inside the creek.  That wone will be a challenge.

Both Archer and Magnus learned how to tie a timber hitch and a bowlin knot.  And they are copetant withthe chainsaw and the Sawsall - and the ATV.  Of course, they both want t drive the ATV exclusively, so I make them take turns.

One afternoon Magnus helped me clean out the area above one end of the cooler.  There were a bunch of empty boxes and other junk.  I needed it cleaned out for when the workers come to repair the damage  on he barn.  It was really hot, but Magnus worked like of real trooper.  We filled up the van with cardboard and metal for recycling.  Dad took everything to the Metro South recycling center.

Jane and Ruby came over one afternoon and found one of our biggest (if not the biggest) Douglas Firs.

For the time being Ruby took over management of the drive-in restaurant.

She provided excellent service to Magnus

And me

Friday was a luncheon for a few of Jenny's friends.  It was fun, and yet, at the same time, it was quite sad.

Jude's birthday celebration was Sunday night.  He wanted strawberry shortcake.
