 Week 23 - Oregon City - June 6 - June 11, 2023

I don't have much to relate after the Austin Experience....I mostly recovered.

I'm finally getting serious about repairing the window sills on the south facing windows.  The work is more that our skills can manage.....and we don't want to impose on Val Glenn...again.  The sills are rotten which is so annoying because we thought we were buying high quality windows....but they weren't.  The disintegration started just a jew years after we got them and regardless of how much I painted, they just got worse.  I took these photos and forwarded them to Quaid Housekeeper who built our deck and lean-to (where the tractor is stored).  I'm hopeful he cant get to them quickly so I can paint before the rains come in the fall.

I've started to water the trees I planted in the woods.  We've bee collecting milt jugs for months.  I fill them with water, load them into the trailer, and give two jugs to each tree.  It's time consuming, but I don't want the trees to die (like...at least half of the oak trees I planted last summer).

We cut a load of wood from the pile of logs at Beverly's - it made four tractor scoops of firewood.

Happy kids playing outside on a beautiful day - instead of watching tv.  They're making boats.

Dad helped a lot with outdoor plumbing projects.

We're trying to catch a second skunk.  We can smell it, but so far, have not gotten it into the trap.  We did get Jethro, however.....he was one angry cat.

Next week I'm going on an exploratory hike with Abby and Clara.  We're going south to Sweet Home and then east to the trailhead of the Santiam Wagon Road.  I'm hopeful it'll be a perfect birthday backpacking hike for kids.  What is "perfect"...two miles one way, not much elevation gain, a good view of the river, a nice flat place close to the river for a tent, and a place to play in the water.  The good part about the hike is tht it hasn't been affected by the fires of the the last 2-3 years - - Yea Sweet Home Ranger District!!!!
