 Week 35 -  Obsidian Limited Entry Area - August 26- September 1, 2024

This week we went on the best hike of all I know in Oregon.  Those on the hike were

Kim, Jessica, Beverly, Olga, and Beverly's friend...dang, I can't remember her name.

Honestly, I had my reservations about going...I wanted to drive up the day before, sleep in the car, and start out early in the morning so I'd have all day to go at my pace.....but Beverly made me change my mind.

TUESDAY  the 27th

The hike to the  campsite was as expected.

Burned area

And the unburned forest

Glacier Creek

Up the steep part of the trail to Sunshine Meadow - it nearly did me in...I'd walk 50 steps and then take a rest.  But, with perseverance, we finally got to Sunshine Meadow and set up our camp.

Jessica and her tent.

A favorite activity is to sit on the edge of the meadow and read.

Bev is our overachiever - she headed to higher ground to take a photo of the sunset.

WEDNESDAY - our plan was to hike to Obsidian Falls and spend our time reading and relaxing.  First we had to get the obligatory photos in Sunshine Meadow.

Sister Spring - the water is good...but the word on the street is that some of our group (last hear) dumped out their water.

THURSDAY - today we hiked up about a mile to Arrowhead Lake which is on the cliff we call The Edge of Perfection.  Nowadays there are usually people up there - I think it is because of the digital maps and directions which makes it easy for people to use.  When I first started hiking up here, there were no maps - I used google earth and bushwhacked my way up.
This is my favorite part of the outing.

Crossing Glacier Creek

Heading up the Climber's Trail

Arrival at Arrowhead Lake (really just a pond)

This the Edge of Paradise - overlooking the Obsidian Fields and the PCT
Three years ago I placed my Dad's ashes right here in the center of a heart made of rocks.

This is where I want my ashes placed, Dad says some of his can go here too.

We are on the edge of the cliff.

The valley in the distance is the end of the trail where we started at Sunshine Meadow.  The big mountain peak is Mt Jefferson.

We spent the afternoon basking in the sun on the edge of perfection.

Bev and her friend spent the night up here.

She got a nice sunset photo.

Alas - at the end of the day, it was time to hike down the steep gravely trail to the campsite at Sunrise Meadow.
Bye..... Arrowhead Lake

Hello Sunshine

FRIDAY - for lunch we drove to Sisters, Oregon and ate at a cluster of food carts.

It was a great three days!!

My birthday was on Sunday.  I made a drawing of the Obsidian Area and Warren copied it on my cake.
