#21-Walking the Camino-May 22, 2016

Turned out it wasn't hard to find the Camino on the morning after all. Down the road (only one road and only one down), right at florist shop, and over the bridge.

First thing we did was put on our rain capes - a bad omen for the rest of the day. And then looked for these two motifs.

We began walking on a 10 1/2 mile straight section on the "Via Aquitana". It's an ancient Roman route that has been restored. The guide book says it is restored. I'd say it has simply been covered by gravel or asphalt. But I calmed my sense of disappointment by imagining that underneath the wet dirt and gravel were big blocks of stone set only as Roman civil engineers could.

We met up with the Allreds again and with Cathy Dixon. We exchanged addresses so we can send them Spanish poppy seeds, Warren's Italian poppies from the Rome temple grounds right along the fence line (only one plant each) and some of the Austrian geranium plants that "came" from a garden center in Halle Austria.

Here was an unpleasant pitfall along the way - no longer Roman road....we knew the Romans would have put a culvert there. I thought I had found a great alternative to walking through the puddle.

But gracefully leaping over the ditch was not a good choice
