Our big thing this week was that we went to Provo/Orem to visit Natalie and the Utah Grays. We left PDX about 2:00 on Thursday and arrived SLC about 6:00. Here is proof that we were in the airplane

And this couldn't be anything besides a Utah sunset

The purpose of the trip was to visit with Natalie (because she is getting ready to graduate...in a year...and maybe getting married...and Jessica wants as much time as possible to be with her. Another BIG attraction was to find the most perfect of eating places which are much better in Utah than in Oregon.
Upon arriving we went to eat at Gurus...Ivan met us there

Afterwards we went to Chip for cookies.

Friday started early so we could eat breakfast food......(Dad and I cheated and had scrambled eggs and bacon at the hotel).
We went to Banbury Cross Doughnuts first - the doughnuts were incredible yummy.

Then we went to T & E Latin Pastries which had really interesting and different pastries - the meat pies were scrumptious.

And the remains

Then we went to GYGI which is a kitchen store on steroids. One side of the building is a showroom for different styles of kitchens. Renee and I looked there first and decided that neither of our homes warranted a kitchen of this distinction.

The other side carried every kind of kitchen gadget one could ever imagine or want.
Sprinkles

Tongs

A gadget to cut off the top of a hard boiled or soft boiled eggs. I've dreamed of having one of these.

But.....I did buy a plastic lid for a pyrex mixing bowl.....which should enable me to make popcorn in the microwave. And I got a clip-on spoon holder - you can clip it on the frying pan or whatever.
Next we went to Ruby Snap for more cookies.

Utah has chocolates too! They were really good!

Here Jessica is taking a photo of the raspberry/chocolate

In the early evening we headed to Downeast which is a clothing store that Jessica loves...Natalie too. Nat bought a dress, and I even bought a skirt because it was only $11.00.

For dinner we met Ivan and fam (minus Archer) at Cubby's

Ice cream at Penguin Brothers was our dessert

Saturday morning Dad and I skipped the hotel's breakfast so we could get kolaches at Hruska's

I actually never got out of the car to stand in the line on the sidewalk to get the kolaches. Instead I stayed in the car and talked to Julie Beck who was the companion of one of our mission president's.
These were absolutely delicious, and we ate them all.
We met up with Natalie and we took her car while Jess, Bev, and Nat went to do more shopping and food tasting. We, instead, went to Ivan's, picked up the boys and headed east up Provo Canyon in search of geocaches. We searched for five and found three.

Here Archer is just trying to go up a steep incline.

We went as far as Midway where we ended up at the cheese/ice cream place.

We ended our evening by meeting up at Yummy's where we had dinner with Jeff and Karin Carter who were Humanitarian missionaries in Bishkek. For an unknown reason we took a picture of the outside of the restaurant but none of us with the Carters. What a mistake.

Sunday we spent with Ivan. Went to church and spent the afternoon ....mostly watching silly YouTube videos.

Dad helped Magnus figure out how to repair something on his bike's gear shifter.

Bjorn and Archer looking very studly in front of the van.

Magnus has mountain biking skills
We watched part of the SuperBowl.

Last minute photos

Then headed up to SLC to catch our flight to PDX that leaves at 9 PM. Fun time in Utah!!
Some random - non Utah - photos from this week
On Monday Tyler's orchestra class played in the lobby at the Schnitz prior to the Oregon Symphony's concert.

Jessica removed the five stitches from my head.

On the way to pick up Abby morning I was stunned by the sunrise - as were numerous other residents on Brunner Road. It had been a long time since we'd seen a sunrise.

The Ables sent us this old photo taken on the Mediterranean. Good memories. From Spring 2018.
