Early morning sunrise at the Manor.

Whitney had a doctor's appointment (or something), and she brought Holland to our house. Holland did not want her mother to leave!!! So she went and sat on the front porch and waited for about three hours for her mother's return...very determined and patient!

Last fall Bev and I and Jenn and others went to Detroit Lake to "check it out" to see if it was a suitable place for a portion of the Young Women High Adventure. The Cove Creek Campground met all the expectations, and plans were made for the Young Women to have a part of their activity there. THEN......all church activities were canceled for the summer, and the Detroit Lake experience seemed doomed. On a stroke of inspiration, Bev and Jessica, while thinking "what are we going to do this summer", checked out the possibility of going to Detroit Lake for a week, and surprise-surprise there were four campsites still available, and one had lake access. So off to Detroit Lake went the Scotts, the Louthans, the Manor Grays, the Utah Grays, the Fort Grays and the Tidewater Grays. We took bikes for the big boys (not the little kids because we didn't want to worry about how far they may go on the bikes), 2 kayaks and a canoe.
Here are the Louthans, ready to go. I was amazed that the car didn't break under the load.

These are random photos taken around the campsite.

This photo is of Clay jumping off a suspension bridge. Magnus wanted to do it, but I told him he had to have is Dad's permission first. Ivan said, "no."

Camille realized (after the tent had been packed up and in the trailer) that she'd left her phone in a tent pocket. She dove into the tent and found it.

Jessica's campsite was the one with the lake access. The location was perfect since it "allowed" only one trail access to the lake, making it easier to keep track of everyone. The water was high - so high - that there wasn't much of a beach and submerged willow bushes obscured much of the view of the lake. The water sports were great. Along with our canoe and Paul's two inflatable kayaks, a paddle board and a hard shell kayak were rented for one day.

Should I mention the "incident" when the wind came up, and all the water craft had a bit of difficulty making it back to shore. Especially, the canoe proved difficult in high wind instances, and of course, inexperienced canoeists didn't help the situation.
Fortunately our trusty lifeguards on dock patrol noticed the struggling paddlers, and their quick phone call requesting some strong people to help, saved the day.

The details are a bit fuzzy. All made it back on their own power except the canoe. Travis took a kayak out to assist, but his help wasn't needed as a Good Samaritan motor boat threw them a line and towed the four in the canoe to the dock. Travis and Ryan then paddled the canoe back to our campsite. It was a good lesson for everyone.
One day Warren, Whitney, Holland, Evan, Bjorn, and I hiked the two miles up to Stahlman Point which has a great view of Detroit Lake and Mt Jefferson.

It was a great camping trip - lots of good food, fun things to do, happy children. The weather was even perfect.....except for the very last day. We'd planned to come back on Sunday...leaving right after breakfast, but the weather report showed rain would start in the wee hours of Sunday morning. Why tempt fate and stay the night and pack up a wet camp in the morning. The decision? Leave right after dinner on Saturday and have a late night time arrival on Saturday rather than a wet arrival home on Sunday.
Here's our Christmas Card 2020 photo with all grandchildren! A Grand Time!
