Week 32 - Sutton Campground Family Campout - August 8- 14, 2022
This was our week for the Family Campout at Sutton Campground near Florence. Everyone was there except for....sniff.....Ivan and family. We stayed at a big group site which had plenty of room for all our tents. Dad and I were in the camper in the parking area. Travis and family were in an adjacent trailer site, and Dolores was just two spots away in her trailer. A nice flush bathroom just across the road. Really...a good place for a big noisy family.
We all finally arrived about 2:00 ish - - after Dad and I took the scenic drive down the coast. Got everything set up and then celebrated Natalie's 24th birthday.
Warren was able to coach Abby, an aspiring gymnast, with her cartwheels.
We took our new Solo Stove. I thought it worked perfectly!!
A lot of games were played during the week!
On Wednesday we found the Barker Beach Trail, hoping it would provide good access to the beach. Turns our it was a very sandy half mile hike from the parking to the water. Nice....but not really a good fit for all of us and all of our "beach stuff". Nice beach, though.
This view is of the uphill part of the dune we had to go up to get back to the car.
We ended up going to a spot with much closer parking. Don't know the name of the beach, but we call it Driftwood Shores because that's the name of the hotel which was right behind us. Not remote, I know, but the motel had a little deli (great brownies) and a great toilet.
We used our new sun shade.
Warren helped Evan with his handstands.....Warren learned a lot when he did gymnastics at OSU.
Spread out with the Driftwood Hotel in the background.
Kids loved sliding down some of the small dunes.
Thursday we went to Honeyman State Park and staked out our spot on the opposite side of this lake than we did last year. It was a much better place!!
Friday we drove to the Hobbit Hole trail ead which took us to a beach. It was a nice remote beach but the trail wasn't very interesting.
Friday afternoon we went into Florence for our dune buggy rides. Some of us went on the hour long slow and steady ride while the thrill seekers went on the much faster but shorter ride. I don't have any photos taken on my actual ride because my arms were crossed in front of me holding on to the shoulder straps of my harness.
Friday evening we went to the jetty; the kids climbed on the rocks, found crabs and so forth.
Dad and I found a sunset.
Next year...............
