Week 32 - Oregon City, August 7 - August 13, 2023
It took me almost the whole week to clean up after out vacation at the beach in Florence.
I had planned to go backpacking to Pamelia Lake with Jessica and Dolores. Checking details on line indicated an algae bloom in the lake. A quick call to Detroit Ranger Station confirmed the algae and als said the lake level was really low. well, that put a damper on everything. Instead, we decided to do a training hike on the Paradise Park Trail. The elevation at the start was 3000 feet and we went three miles before turning around. It was a good practice run on Obsidian.
I watered all of the trees I'd planted in the woods....and I potted up three tiny Douglas Fir seedlings that I'd found. Decided it was too much trouble to water them when they might not survive anyway. So, they're in pots, and in the fall of 2025, I'll plant them somewhere.
I finally finished cutting/chopping off the suckers on all of the maple trees. It took me longer than I expected and it was harder than I expected.
I'd been watching this one plant all summer long. It has really big leaves and looks interesting. It finally bloomed' I took this photo; and excitedly showed it to Dad!
It's a cocklebur - - - a nasty nasty weed! Dad pulled it and two others out of the ground. I was so disappointed, and I think I know where another on is growing.
In the ice storm in 2021 a tall cedar tree fell over in Sector 5. Every time I take my walk I have to step over the fallen trunk and each time I vow to cut it up and drag it out. Finally I did just that to 32 feet of the tree.
Now to the good part -KITTENS!
Kittens at rest
I got harnesses for them. They are really too big and there is little room for adjustments. When wearing them, the kitten walk like they are drunk.
I got them newer harnesses that work better on a smaller cat. The kittens wear them with no problem.
A cat's life can be pretty good.
