Oregon City, Oregon, - Week 33 - August 12-August 18, 2019

This was the week of the fair!!!!!! Pretty much the whole week was the "Week of the Fair"

But wait---first and foremost, I got my cast REMOVED and am now wearing a removable boot.

The dried, dead, disgusting skin!!

Wrapped up in an ace bandage to help reducer swelling - but turned out to not be necessary

Here is my old "faithful" boot from back in May and June.

After my first exfoliating shower.....still disgusting

And, five days later, my lovely foot is just dang cute.....in a creepy way.  I think the final photo of my foot my be taken in September after I am given the "okay" to start wearing a shoe again.

You can barely see the scar - I will be able to wear sandals again without any shame.

Now to the good stuff - --

On Monday Warren, Whitney and Dad took their horticultural entries to the fair.  Oh the agony that went into deciding which hydrangeas to take.

Tuesday - excitement to see how the Kitchen Cupboard entries fared.

Wedding Cake - First Place

Unicorn - front and back - First Place

Strange - I do not have photos of the Sand Castle or the Torte or the Rainbow Cake - my bad.

But he did well in the cake division as evidenced by  this -

Dad and I went to the fair right after I moved back into the removable boot.

Wednesday the Daily Contest was for a cake made from a recipe that originated prior to 1972 -- it had to be a really antique recipe!

Warren's entry of his Bee Sting Cake took first place!!  Just ask him how many times he had to try to make the bee stingers turn out perfectly - and how many pounds of sugar he used.  I tasted the creme filling which was yummy.

Warren is sharing his ribbon with his favorite supporter

Thursday's contest was for Anything made with Peaches and Anything made with Hazelnuts.......boring

Friday was bread day and the combined Grays and Camille, and Jenny N. had five entries.

My bread -

Dad's bread -

Camille's Pizza Bread

Whitney's Rosemary Bread

Jenny's Sourdough Bread

And - tadaaahh - Warren's Buongirno Bread, which took a second place

And, finally, Saturdays's Men's Chocolate Cake contest.

I'm sure Dad's cake tasted the best

But Warren's was the prettiest and won first place

Fair photos

Lunch of a Philly Cheese Steak

Saw a lot of people we knew - here is Jami Beech

Hawaiian Shave Ice was the best

Holland liked the Nachos the best

Uncle Banjo Billie had a somewhat annoying banjo show, but he could really play the instrument and we learned way more than we ever thought possible.

I went to Seattle again with Vannessah - I told her she needed my second pair of ears to help her listen to her doctor (the first time I dozed off during the conversation).  Vannessah is wearing her cold cap in lower right corner of photo.

Dad harvested our crop of pears - pretty meager.

Enjoying a dinner of left overs on our deck

Enjoying grandchildren

Jessica and Ryan bought a 'new to them' Toyota Highlander.

Evan gave his mission farewell talk in Church - quite possibly the very best mission talk ever given.  His Open House was in the evening.  Many friends came o wish Evan well.  There was also tons of good food to snack on - I liked Dad's cake the best.

Evan's making his email list of those who want to hear from him.

He leaves Tuesday morning - due to return on August 2, 2021
