We'd never taken Nat and Evan in the camper. This was their turn.
Happy camperers in back of the truck.
We made it to Corvallis just fine. We were planning on eating a delicious camper made dinner......but I was starving !! So we went to Local Boyz, a local Hawaiian dinner spot. Delicious!
The plan was to spend the night at the top of Mary's Peak. On the way we stopped by to see our old friends, Debbie and Jerry Sparks. We initially met them on the day we were baptized - they were also being baptized. We had many fun and crazy times together. Everybody looked the same and our conversation seemed to pick up right where we left it thirty-nine years ago.
On to the top of Mary's Peak. We knew we wouldn't be able to see anything because there were heavy clouds covering the summit. It wasn't just clouds. There was _n_w too!
So we spent the night in a big pull our somewhere near the top.
And participated in camper evening activities
Then we made our way north on the back roads of Benton County First stop was a brand new experience for Nat and Evan. It was a covered bridge! Specifically the Harris Bridge with the Mary's River flowing underneath.
Apparently parking spots are at a premium in this remote place outside of the city of Wren that nobody has ever heard of.
Of course we looked for a few geocaches
We finally reached our destination
Fort Hoskins was a active army fort in the 1800's. The signs said it was there to protect the Indian trails to the coast, but, I'm pretty sure the purpose of the fort was to keep the Indians, well...subjugated. I remembered Fort Hoskins as being really interesting with old houses and stuff. But it is really rather ho-hum now.
There IS an interesting house that is somewhat restored or will be restored someday
And an "after market"bathroom built on
the porch with drains going
somewhere.
Then it was time to go back to reality.
