Oregon City, Oregon - Week 36 - September 2 - September 8, 2019

The big thing this week was that school started again, and we began the season with hot chocolate

Ruby started preschool at ACA on Wednesday, and.... perhaps, Janie wanted to go with her.

We had a hummingbird visit us in the kitchen.  The weather was warm, and the screen-less windows were open, and the little fella just flew in.  Then he (it) frantically started to smash into the closed window where it could see the sugar-water feeder and a bird buddy.  In its fright, the bird slipped between the two panes of the double hung window.  It was nip and tuck for a while, but Dad got the bird out using a butter knife and flicked it out one of the windows.

Warren came over, and with his helper daughter, he and Dad added an additional wire to support the shade cloth.  I was so happy to have that done....and Dad and Warren were so pleased to help me.

We are making a BIG push to finish splitting, moving and stacking all the rest of the wood out under and near the fig trees.  We were so thankful for Camille and Logan and Tyler who came to help.  Ryan also came!!!  He and Dad split all but nine of the big rounds - that we figured had come from the big pine tree that had (sniff...had) been in Warren's front yard.

Ruby and Janie patiently waited while Dad was moving the tractor around

To end a perfect day, Dad drove five giggling (and sometime screeching) kids around in the scoop.

Bev got me this cool book for reading to the kids

I spent Saturday morning preparing food for the elk hunting trip with Travis.  We leave on Wednesday.

Saturday afternoon I rearranged the outside wood that is stacked on the pallets and then maneuvered the plastic over the big pile.  The challenge was to try to build the pile in such a way that the rain will easily run off and not puddle.  Just a little more work to do until there will be no visible wood chunks - only bare ground...or bare grass.

On Saturday Paul went fishing in the ocean on a fishing activity sponsored by Benchmade.  He caught a bunch sea bass and crabs, and we had them for dinner Sunday night.  There was a lot of giggling while the crabs were being cleaned and picked clean of meat.

Way to go Paul!
