Week 22 - Oregon City - May 26 - June 1, 2025
Monday - the actual Memorial Day - the family decided to do the bike ride at Chapoeg, like we did last year. Neither did I or Dad do the bike ride (I really didn't have a bike in good condition). But, we did go to the Butteville store in Butteville, Oregon -- to meet up with the family and get lucy --and found a parking spot right in front of the store. Dad and I shared a sandwich and we both got ice cream cones...and then Dad ordered a second, a lemon curd sundae.
Monday night we had a family dinner (picnic) to celebrate Memorial Day. Warren made birthday cakes for Ruby and Jane.
I've started doing two miles a day in the woods carrying my pack. I'm going to increase the weight to 20 pounds. I really love being in the woods.
Here's some Yellow Sorrel - I haven't seen this before in the woods. Oxalis siksdorfii.
Here's some really tall grass - over 6 feet tall.
Here's an exhausted cat.
One morning, in Sector 2 down by the two bridges, I came upon a big doe deer who looked at me in a surprised manner - then she immediately walked away. Just ten feet away, on the ground, I saw a rabbit. What???!!! A rabbit in the woods.
I walked carefully around it......and it is a fawn - a piebald fawn, which is rather rare.
I continued on my walk, looked back, and saw that the doe had returned to the fawn.
Jane was baptized on Sunday. All of the Oregon Grays were there plus the bishop and wife, and the Robertsons. It was really nice.
